Neal Schon at the NAMM Booth in Anaheim, CA, Jan.16, 2010

Postby gigi » Dec-22-09 12:31 pm

TOP ARTISTS SCHEDULED FOR LECTROSONICS NAMM BOOTH APPEARANCES

Albuquerque, NM – December 2009 - Lectrosonics, recognized the world over as a leading manufacturer of wireless microphone systems and audio processing products, is pleased to announce the appearances of instrumentalists Ricky Phillips of Styx, Stevie D. of Buckcherry, Neal Schon of Journey, and Johnny Hiland at the Lectrosonics booth (#6698, Hall A) during Winter NAMM, held January 14 – 17 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. For guitarists and bass players interested in “cabled” sound quality combined with the ease of movement and freedom from “dropouts”, the Lectrosonics IS400 Digital Hybrid Wireless® instrument system merits a close look.

The IS400, designed for use with both electric and acoustic instruments in demanding live performance environments, uses Digital Hybrid Wireless technology developed by Lectrosonics. The result is that the IS400 system offers a matchless balance of digital audio quality and the immense operational range of the finest FM wireless systems. Further, the IS400's means of operation eliminates the need for an analog compandor circuit in the audio path along with the normally corresponding signal artifacts, and provides superior audio dynamic and frequency response when compared to analog-only systems. The IS400's 50mW LMA transmitter and R400 diversity receiver are both housed within rugged, all-metal casings for long-lasting use in the most demanding performance environments.

Ricky Phillips, Stevie D., and Neal Schon will be signing autographs during their time at the Lectrosonics booth. Johnny Hiland will be performing using the Lectrosonics IS400 system. Lectrosonics will post the artists’ appearance schedule on the company website (click here for listing) and the NAMM Playback publication as Winter NAMM approaches. Similarly, there will be a schedule posted at the Lectrosonics booth.

Stories of 2009 salute heroes of Mid-Valley
CapiLynn
December 30, 2009

The year of the hero, that's how I would sum up this column in 2009.
We hailed those who saved lives, from bystanders to emergency responders.

We applauded those who made a difference, from volunteers to nonprofit directors.

We cheered those who inspired others, from middle-schoolers to retirees.

I say we, because many of the ideas for this space have come from you. Thank you for making this a meaningful part of the newspaper.

(i'll cut to the part of the article about Deen .. )

Deen Castronovo achieved hero status among people who work and play at the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties.

Castronovo, who lives in Keizer and is the drummer for the band Journey, donated thousands of dollars worth of instruments and recording equipment to create a music room at the club's main branch. Today members can get lessons in acoustic, bass and electric guitar, keyboard and drums in what has since been dubbed the "Journey to Music" room.

Castronovo continues to support the program and stops by for an occasional visit when he's not on tour.

Hit up a bit of Journey and Guns & Roses
January 14, 2010

There were so many good, rocking events at Duffy's Hangar this weekend that we could not bring ourselves to just pick one.

Instead, we would suggest you have a sustained rocking weekend tonight through Saturday.

Things will kick off tonight with a show from E.R.M.C., a side project of Deen Castronovo. When he's not playing in E.R.M.C., Castronovo also drums for a band you may have heard of — Journey. Yeah. That's right. Journey. Don't stop believin'!

Then, on Friday night, it's time for a show from Appetite for Deception, a Guns N' Roses tribute band. Prediction: If you go, they WILL play "Welcome to the Jungle," and it will rock per always.

Finally, on Saturday, you can enjoy some great prog-rock courtesy of Quandry, a home-grown band. Sadly, the group now resides in Portland, which is all the more reason to catch one of their increasingly rare Salem gigs.

All of these concerts will be held at Duffy's Hangar, and all are for ages 21 and older.

For more information, call (503) 581-5278.

— K. Williams Brown

NAMM: Sightings Gallery, Part 2
January 17, 2010
by Blake

Saturday was a celeb-heavy affair at the Winter NAMM show… but oddly, we missed a bunch of them! And Sunday… well, we did say ‘Hi’ to Guthrie Govan and Stanton Moore, but that was pretty much it. We understand that the likes of Gene Simmons, Jason Mraz, Julianne Hough and others were around the convention center on Saturday, but we… of course, were busy gathering up the pedal and amp news for you! We did however see a few folks… so we thought we’d share an abbreviated Part Two to our Sightings gallery with you. Journey to Paradise City, after the jump!

La Russa's benefit concert mixes rock, comedy, celebs
By Daniel Durchholz
01/18/2010

Tony La Russa told the audience at his ARF Stars to the Rescue benefit Sunday night that the show was constructed a little bit like an All-Star Game.

"You don't ask people to do their whole show," he said. "You ask them to pitch a couple innings, take a couple at bats."

Just so, the six individual sets performed at Chaifetz Arena were kept short and sweet, but the lineup was deep and varied, representing country music, classic and alternative rock, and comedy.

Headliner Dierks Bentley didn't rock the house, as per usual, but instead offered a breezy, stripped-down acoustic performance that was well stocked with hits, including "Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go)," "Feel That Fire," "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes" and "What Was I Thinkin'."

Bentley struck just the right note for the evening's finale: intimate, but raucous enough.

Kathleen Madigan did something not every comedian can manage to do — kill in her hometown. Some of the many laughs were at the expense of her parents, whom she said once tried but failed to hire some Amish roofers. ("You can't call the [S.O.B's]," her father fumed.)

Other topics included gay marriage, Oprah, maundering "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul ("I haven't seen that much drinking on TV since 'Bewitched,'" Madigan said) and entertaining the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recalling a general showing her a map of the infrastructure improvements Americans had made, Madigan quipped, "When we're done here, we should invade Detroit."

Styx founder Dennis DeYoung offered a preview of his Feb. 12 Family Arena show, playing some of his former band's biggest hits, including "Lady," "Babe" and "Come Sail Away."

Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain backed his 16-year-old daughter Madison on a pair of tunes (with her younger brother Westin on drums), then played the event-appropriate tune "Man's Best Friend" and a medley of his group's hits.

Also on the bill were Kennett, Mo., native David Nail, whose brief set marked him as a definite talent to watch, and Chicago-based alt-rockers the Lovehammers.

Among the many sports celebrities in attendance were Blues president John Davidson, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, Cardinals legend Red Schoendienst, GM John Mozeliak, and players Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Ryan Franklin, Ryan Ludwick, Kyle Lohse, Kyle McClellan, Brad Penny, Skip Schumaker, hitting coach Mark McGwire – who got a standing ovation when introduced — and former Cards Mike Matheny and Jim Edmonds.

Edmonds surprised everyone — seemingly even the host — when he jumped on stage at the end of the show and announced that he was "challenging" La Russa to allow him to return to the Cardinals and play for free. He quickly changed his mind and said, "Maybe for the [league] minimum."

La Russa seemed a little nonplussed by the offer, but smiled and said, "We'll consider it."

Mouth Man Releases Adult Hoodie Shirts in Nine Wild Designs
Mon Feb 1, 1:30 pm ET

Mouth Man's adult clothing line has arrived thanks to overwhelming customer demand. Just like the children's line, the adult hoodie shirts instantly transform into an animated animal when the wearer's arms cross over at the elbows, creating a "mouth."

Benicia, CA (PRWEB) February 1, 2010 -- Mouth Man LLC, purveyor of unique, animated children's clothing, is proud to announce the launch of its adult clothing line. Ranging from Adult S to 2XX, the adult line will continue to expand Mouth Man's presence in the apparel market and shake up the way consumers think of clothes.

Just like the children's line, the adult hoodie shirts instantly transform into an animated animal when the wearer's arms cross over at the elbows, creating a "mouth,"

"Every time we're out there selling, there'd always be people asking 'where's my size? If you only made these in adult sizes, I'd buy them.' We've been getting these requests from across the board--emails, Facebook, in person." says sales coordinator Suzie Davis. "It's time to let adults in on the fun."

Since its 2009 launch, Mouth Man shirts have been selling out everywhere from festivals and craft fairs to Bay Area gift shops and the Discovery Channel's online gift shop, Discoverystore.com. Conceptualized by bass player Ross Valory, founder and one of only two original members still performing for the legendary rock band Journey, Mouth Man LLC's hoodie shirts have been a hit.

Not only has the company created nine unique hoodie designs including Raptor, Cobra, Tiger, Shark, Dog, Orca, Gator, Frog and Gecko but Mouth Man LLC has worked with the San Jose Sharks to make a game shirt to be sold at the Sharks Arena store.

Now, Mouth Man LLC is looking to 2010 to continue its rapid growth in the apparel market through both consumer and corporate sales.

"2010 is going to be a great growth year for Mouth Man," said Mark Sandoval, CEO. "Not only are we now in full production of our adult shirts, Mouth Man will continue its growth through expansion of its arena and fan-based apparel lines."

The adult line will feature the same classic animal designs as the children's, as well as new designs currently in development. Mouth Man LLC will continue its commitment to preserving the environment by using recycled fabric and water-based dyes in manufacturing as well as printing the shirts locally at the company's new Benicia office to reduce carbon emissions from shipping.

Now kids and big kids alike can turn their everyday street clothes into a game! For more information on Mouth Man LLC and its founder Ross Valory, and to view the designs, visit http://www.mouthman.com.

The Neal Schon Band

State Theatre Modesto
Sat. March 20

Is there anyone on the planet, young or old, who hasn’t heard of Journey, much less of guitarist Neal Schon? We didn’t think so, that’s why we’re bringing Schon to The State for one rocking night of seriously soulful guitar licks and a playlist that includes some of his work from Journey, the group he still heads up today. Schon, a prodigy at 17, was asked by Eric Clapton to join Derek and the Dominos, but went on tour with Carlos Santana instead (reportedly, Santana called him first). In 1973, he formed Journey and the rest is history: five solo albums, 14 studio albums with Journey, a pair of albums with keyboardist Jan Hammer, short-term collaborations with Sammy Hagar and more recently a side project – Soul SirkUS with Jeff Scott Soto. Let’s face it, the guy is a legend! Need we say more?

http://www.schonmusic.com/

Doors at 7 p.m.; concert at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25, $35, $45

Good Hoodies
Journey bassist and Alamo resident Ross Valory's big new idea.
By Angela Sasse

WHAT DO HOMER Simpson, Cars star Lightning McQueen, and S.J. Sharkie have in common? They have all been featured on Mouthman hoodie sweatshirts.

These hip hoodies are the creation of Alamo resident Ross Valory, whose day job is playing bass for the rock band Journey. Valory had the inspiration for Mouthman in the early 1970s—and finally got around to acting on the idea decades later.

“I was on the road with Journey and had a day off to visit some friends in Tucson,” says Valory. “Their daughter was pretending her arms were a monster’s mouth. I thought it would be pretty cool if a shirt had a mouth on the sleeves.”

The first sweatshirt was created for the San Jose Sharks, with shark fangs on the arms. Deals with The Simpsons and Pixar followed, as well as the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. The hoodies, which cost $25, are all made in Benicia.
