AP, Steven Tyler and Aerosmith

Postby BitterHalf » Nov-10-09 2:18 am

Just a short mention of AP in this article from BeatCrave: http://beatcrave.com/2009-11-09/steven- ... aerosmith/

Steven Tyler Has Reportedly Quit Aerosmith
Monday, November 9, 2009 9:09AM - By Jeffrey Hyatt

Dude looks like an ex-Aerosmith lead singer. Looks as if Steven Tyler has reached the end of his legendary run with Aerosmith. According to reports he’s quit the band, which leaves the future of the famous rock act up in the air.

Rumors had been swirling for awhile about Tyler possibly jumping ship to focus on solo projects, but now Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry has given the story a finale, telling the Las Vegas Sun that “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” adding that “he has had no contact with me or the other band members.”

It’s been a rough go lately for Tyler and Aerosmith. The bulk of their recent world tour had to be canceled in August after the singer fell from the stage at a concert in South Dakota and broke his shoulder. And then there was the interview with Classic Rock Magazine where Tyler said his new focus was going to be on “Brand Tyler,” which sounds goofy coming from such a rock legend (I mean, is he launching a line of sneakers, cologne?), but no doubt it’s the sort of language that didn’t bode well for the band as we know it.

According to the Las Vegas Sun article, part of the problem throughout all this confusion is that Tyler has been incommunicado, opting to keep the rest of the band in the dark.

C’mon Steve, pick up a phone!

Said Perry:

“He’s notorious for that,” said Perry. That’s one thing I’ve learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I’ve been wanting not to rock the boat. I don’t want him canceling any more gigs. I got off the plane and saw this online. That’s how I know about it.”

So if Tyler has really flown the coop, the next question is what happens to Aerosmith?

For Perry, he wants to keep the band moving forward, but obviously he’s still shaken up about his longtime collaborator quitting.

“Right now I’m adjusting to how we’re going to go on. Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it’s like a steam locomotive. You just can’t disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. We’re just trying to – at least I am – trying to figure out what direction the band should take.”

It would be tough to imagine someone other than Steven Tyler singing “Toys in the Attic” and “Dream On,” but the band has the right to keep rockin’. Does anyone know if Arnel Pineda knows any old Aerosmith tunes? Maybe he could perform double-duty between Journey and Aerosmith?

But seriously, Tyler has been one of the premier rock vocalists for decades, fronting a classic rock band that in its heyday played some of the best bluesy-rock ever. They would go on to overcome internal conflict, adapt to an MTV world and attract an entire new generation of fans, all the while cementing their legacy as one of the great American rock n’ roll bands of all-time.

So for fans it’s a sad day, the end of the road for Aerosmith – with Steven Tyler that is.

But if Tyler wants to do his own thing – good luck. Perry and the other three members have every right to keep the train a rollin’.

Perry:

“As far as replacing Steve, it’s not just about that, it’s also four guys that play extremely well together, and I’m not going to see that go to waste. I really don’t know what path it’s going to take at this point, but we’ll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we’ll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch.”

What is it with lead singers named Steve? I kid! I kid!

I'm holding out for Arnel to sing with Queen, even for just one number. :daydream:

Oh no. Not another Steve! But wait just in case, AP would be working with a guy named Perry?

Seriously, I had playfully thought about that when Steve had to rest and their tour had to be cancelled. While Journey is on R&R and Aerosmith had to look for a replacement...

Rockstar temps anyone? Imagine that! (says the cat in the hat)

Although Steven Tyler is a legendary frontman, he has never been a good singer. Arnel could do Aerosmith songs better than Steven with his hands tied behind his back and his eyes closed. Arnel also has the scarf thing going. He could tie it around the microphone stand, as well as around his neck.

From Joe Perry's Twitter account (he's AdmiralPerry):
In the meantime aerosmith is positivly looking for a new singer to work with. You just can't take 40 years of expiriance and throwitinthebin!
about 3 hours ago from Tweetie

Always sad to hear about the breakup of a band when they've been around as long as them. They were really lucky to be rejuvenated when Run DMC sampled from them and made the "Walk This Way" video. It will be interesting to see the selection process for their new singer.

Hey, I wanna be silly too. Here's my "wildest dream"....AP in concert entitled, "One Man with the Great Bands". So AP does a show where he hops from one band to another and effortlessly transforms to different voices, from Journey, to Aerosmith, to Queen, and maybe even the Jonas Brothers coz his present look will qualify him for that group he he he. :worship:

I have a reality show brewing in my mind. I would call it "The Ultimate Frontman". Starring Arnel Pineda and Queen, Aerosmith, etc. Arnel would camp with different bands. Practice with them, work on some changes to the songs, etc. At the end of each camp, he will perform a one day concert with each of them...televised. And then the audience will decide/vote which band he most convincingly fronted.

Ok, I know I am crazy but I think it's a good idea....my original idea.

Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Not Breaking Up – But They Need A Singer!
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 10:12AM - By Jeffrey Hyatt

The news of Steven Tyler’s exit as lead vocalist for Aerosmith has shaken up the rock n’ roll world. But guitarist Joe Perry says the band will go on – with or without Tyler belting out all those memorable tunes. Perry took to Twitter late Monday to say that Aerosmith is “not splitting up” but “looking for a new singer to work with.”

So there you go Aerosmith fans – welcome to your very own version of David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar, a debate that has been part of Van Halen’s legacy since the mid-’80s. Looks like Aerosmith fans need to prepare for someone else singing “Dream On,” “Draw the Line” and the rest of the bluesy-rock hits Aerosmith is famous for.

And so the search begins for the next lead singer of Aerosmith.

Let the parlor games begin. Ramp up the rumors. Begin the wild speculation.

Across the web, conversation about possible replacements have already begun; one name that pops ups a lot is Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland, certainly not lacking for that Tyler-esque swagger and fits the hard-livin’/hard-rockin’ model Aerosmith built its reputation on.

Perry and the guys could go the Journey route and find a total unknown, in their case Arnel Pineda, who has done as well as can be expected having to fill the gigantic shows of former Journey vocalist Steve Perry.
Axl Rose and Kid Rock are also names that have come up for discussion.

It’s absolutely nice work if you can get it.

It’s not a perfect science when having to replace a frontman who is forever associated with a particular band. INXS moved on after the sad passing of lead singer Michael Hutchence, but no doubt they haven’t been back to the heights (at least in the US market) they achieved with the original version of the group. But they keep going, and that’s awesome, because INXS should keep playing.

It’s a touchy subject because some fans just might not be able to accept Aerosmith without Tyler out front. Their first album debuted in ‘72, so we’re talking about a lot of fans who have seen Tyler and Aerosmith go up and down and up again, all the while producing some truly amazing rock n’ roll.

If Perry wants to keep the band going then fans will just have to wait and see how it plays out. Whoever it is, they probably won’t be able to sing “Rats in the Cellar” quite as perfect as Tyler, but that doesn’t mean Aerosmith won’t be just as terrific – just different.

And Lord knows Aerosmith could stand to get more youthful. Tyler is 61! And speaking of Tyler post-Aerosmith, I think he should call Noel Gallagher right away.

Who do you think should be the next lead singer of Aerosmith?

I posted it to Joe Perry's fb page but he has it filtered, don't know if he will ever see it. He's probably being bombarded with youtube videos now anyway.

Hmmmmmmm. Gotta feel for Joe Perry. Not hearing from Steve, less than what he felt to be 100% performances, and then about Steve's new project...it sounded like he was going his separate way. I think Joe's statements forced Steve into action. It sounds like some more arguing and bold statements are a-brewing! :impatient:

Maybe Steve's fall off the stage knocked something loose in his noggin. :hmmm:

STEVEN TYLER: 'There Is Absolutely No Validity To Rumor That AEROSMITH Is Breaking Up' - Nov. 11, 2009
Video footage of AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry and vocalist Steven Tyler confirming to a TMZ.com cameraman last night (Tuesday, November 10) in New York City that "there is absolutely no validity to rumor that AEROSMITH is breaking up" can be viewed below.

Tyler joined THE JOE PERRY PROJECT — the band led by Perry — on stage yesterday at the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza in New York City to perform the AEROSMITH classic "Walk This Way". "I just want New York to know, I am not leaving AEROSMITH," Tyler said to a relieved crowd. "Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, motherfucker, am the rainbow!"

Perry told the Las Vegas Sun on Friday (November 6) that Tyler has quit the band he co-founded nearly 40 years ago, following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi. Perry revealed to the newspaper, "Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."

Tyler told Classic Rock magazine following the Middle East concert that he intended to work on "Brand Tyler" instead of a new AEROSMITH record for the foreseeable future, saying, "I don't know what I'm doing yet, but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself — Brand Tyler."

Perry told the Sun that Tyler "has had no contact" with him or the other band members. Classic Rock reported that Tyler's dressing room at the Abu Dhabi gig was distant from the others, and that he did not interact with the rest of the group until they got onstage.

Perry said that he would like AEROSMITH to continue, but admitted that he's not entirely sure how to proceed. He explained, "As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to . . . move the vibe up a notch."

Perry told the Sun that he believed Tyler had been planning to leave for a while, saying, "Obviously he hasn't been giving 100 percent to this thing for a long time . . . To disregard his brothers to the point where we have to find out about it on the Internet — it's like, 'See you later, Bud.' I still care for him as a person, or at least the person I used to know. But things change."
