Chari423 wrote:The younger generations were in full force last night, :worship: probably almost half of the audience (from pre-teen to early thirty’s), about 90% Caucasians.

Yikessss…dirt in my feet, sticky hands, sweaty body…..sweat in every nook and cranny of my body….not a good feeling.

I was with Owie and a few friends from Indianapolis (very wonderful people). We saw Tasha and company before the show. We also met Cats (I hope that’s correct) and hubby (wearing a Revelation t-shirt). I learned that Cats, due to her condition does not really travel much but traveled from Wisconsin to Indiana to watch the concert, she became one of Arnel's biggest fans. She couldn’t figure out what AP had done to her. Sounds familiar?

Since there were so many young kids around, I will not be surprised if a few of those will ask their parents to buy them a drum set after watching Deen. Deen was like a mad man with grace behind his kit, it was like ballet on drums, if there’s such a thing. No MF or Higher Place though.

Ross was very cool and funny as usual.

Jonathan was multi-tasking. I don’t know how many instruments that man can play but it’s pretty impressive.

My precious Neal, oh my Neal, he looks soooo fine and every inch a man in my opinion. I was yelling trying to get his attention and the people behind were laughing at me for being a nutcase. I love him to death….pure, pure talent. :worship:

Arnel was wearing maroon long sleeves and white pants looking gorgeous. He was in fine form. His voice…AMAZING. He had so much energy the entire night and such a joy to watch, no dull moment at all. He worked the entire stage, engaging the crowd from front to back, both sides of the stage and all the way up to the grandstand. There were a few people in wheelchairs that night and Arnel engaged those people numerous to times to their delight. Arnel sang to this lady on a wheelchair and at one point she stood-up acknowledged him with the rock sign. She was rocking the whole night. Her companion, a guy, based from his t-shirt, was a metal fan; he was rocking as hard.

There were four boys, between the ages of 12-15 years old who went nuts as soon as they heard the intro to Wildest Dreams. They sang the entire song with so much enthusiasm. I was like a proud mommy.

Remember the media review from Tulsa?
Journey’s rendition of “Open Arms,” and Pineda politely refused to copy Perry’s singing style. Shifting some of the song’s vocal notes, Pineda was so into the moment that for a few seconds, one could believe it was he, and not Perry, who sang on the original studio version back in 1981

This is so true, very emotional rendition and excellent vocals plus major goose bumps hearing it live for the first time. :worship:

BTW, the new interlude to OA surprised a lot of people, they sat down when Jon started to play the piano and jumped out of their seats and roared once they realized what song it was.

The band did a wonderful job. :worship:

At the end of the show, we overheard this petite lady who could not believe what she just witnessed. We asked her if she enjoyed the show and she went on and on. She became the biggest fan of Arnel. We told her to check idol’s official site so she can learn more about him. Owie took her picture, name and e-mail. We asked her permission to post it at the official site and she was so thrilled about it. You will see her picture soon.

I was singing so loud and out of tune for the most part but I DID NOT CARE. It was my first concert, I intended to have fun and I did. :yipee:

Meeting AP and family, plus the concert experience…priceless. :cloud9:

Much, much better and intelligent review than Elise's. Thanks. :clap2:

Journey Review another perspective
http://indyconcerts.com/2009/08/journey-review-another-perspective/
Posted by Lindsey | August 18, 2009

Ahhh, Journey and Heart,a show that I will see time and time again as long as they make their way through Indianapolis. I love them, maybe I am bias towards them because my mom and I have had many heartfelt moments to them, besides that they rock (as long as the front man knows his stuff as Arnel does). I mean come on they found him on YouTube singing to his favorite band (Journey DUH!) as well as other songs and now he is the lead singer, what a gig!

Yes they did newer songs and older songs, the classics, of course received better crowd participation but you know what even the songs I didn’t know sounded awesome and they were still jamming, and to me, showing what they can do musically. When you have been around as long as Journey has you have to strut your stuff.

I like that Arnel jumps and runs around the stage, it has to take a lot out of a performer to do that and still sound as awesome as he did. I think he sounds just as good as past front man Steve Perry. And trust me I have seen Journey concerts where the sit-in singer sucked! But the band, Journey is for me, a household name. And even the songs I didn’t know I still sweated through and tried to sing, that’s what I do. I love Journey.

Yes the heat was crazy but it’s the State Fair and it’s August so I was prepared, and maybe all the fair food I ate before the show wasn’t a good idea but what can I say.

Heart also put on an amazing show, the vocals on the Wilson sisters is ridiculous. These ladies are rocker chics to the core and I love the sisterly bond they have while they perform. It makes me want to start a band with my sister, and yes I thought about it, we would be called Lungs! To me, there are not many who can belt out songs like they can.

My point, regardless of who the lead singer is or how long the guitar riffs, I flippin’ love Journey and will continue to see them for as long as they tour. For new hits and old, they rocked it. I thought Arnel’s accent was cute too. (Besides the point I know but it was, he is just so happy and who the hell wouldn’t be?)

This is a nice blog about the concert .. http://arclengthcafe.blogspot.com/2009/08/its-not-final-destination.html

It's not the final destination...

This past Sunday I spent a day at the state fair that culminated in a concert by Journey! With me was friend and fellow Journey aficionado, Jamie. On our way into the Indiana Fair Grounds we saw a big, light-up road sign that we felt started the day off on the right leg. "Enjoe Tethe Fair".

We strolled through most of the livestock barns, midway, and a couple of the exhibit buildings, with various breaks to eat some fried foods (what state fairs are all about!) and drink claustrophobic root beer. Things we did not eat include: Pork or Chicken On-A-Stick, fried Oreos, fried pizza, fried Pepsi, Fiddle Sticks, Dippin' Dots, Hot Wisconsin Cheese, chocolate covered bacon, Ribbon Fries with or without barbecued pork, sausage, sour cream, cheese, or bacon. Things we did eat include: funnel cake, corn dogs, and honey ice cream (delicious by the way.)

We got to see several classes of Draft Horse Competition and part of a goat show before hitting the grandstand 40 minutes before the concert was set to begin and after laughing at the fact that Jamie's seat was actually right behind a pillar (which I may or may not have predicted when he called dibs on Seat 37 back in March), we noticed that the sign on the pillar actually said "Section 5" and we were supposed to be in 6, so sadly no blocked view for Jamie.

Heart opened and even though I don't count myself among the throngs of hardened Heart fans, it was still enjoyable. Also very, very loud. They need to talk to their soundman though; there was a bit of distortion. But that's none of my business.

Right after Heart left the stage and while most of the audience was cheering for more, someone caught a glimpse of Ross Valory walking between the trailers and started cheering for him instead, so he stopped to give a bow and some funny poses, which really made the audience's day. I'm not saying that Heart doesn't have a good following, I'm sure that they do, but I do find it incredibly amusing that the bassist for Journey alone got louder cheers. To be perfectly honest the calls for a Heart encore had already died down a bit before Valory was spotted, but still.

Heart came back on for a 2 song encore and then there was a brief intermission while the stage set-up was changed.
And incidentally, again no offense to Heart, but Journey knows how to do a stage. We're talking banks of lights, rows of amps, stepped drum riser, Revelation album art floor covering, projectors, and a Fortress o' Keyboards flanked by a grand piano. Journey is not worried about conserving electricity. The downside of all those flashy lights is that they did confuse my camera quite a lot, so I ended up with a slew of very blurry and quite psychedelic photos (a few of which that can be made sense of, plus others from that day, can be found on Phasebook.)

Arnel Pineda (whom Jamie and I have affectionately nicknamed Zippy; 'cause he loves to jump around and dance so much) was great. He does love one move that comes close to a pelvic thrust, but he's got the blood of a showman, that's for sure. I think that he fits in very well with the rest of the band and the style of music. Fantastic voice. But I've covered that before.

Now, anybody who listens can tell from his music that Neal Schon (second biggest music crush!) does some amazing fingerwork to get the ridiculously fast note sequences in some of the songs that Journey does, but to watch that in action on the big screens was fantastic. Neal Schon's hands are magic, that's all I have to say. He's amazing. He's also a lot of fun to watch and obviously loves what he's doing, as do all of them.

Bit disappointed that Castronovo didn't sing lead on anything. On the concert DVD that I have he does the lead vocals for "Mother, Father" on top of playing drums and he's really fantastic. Of course he was fantastic just playing drums for this concert too. You know who else was fantastic? Jon Cain, that's who. He did a couple of short piano solos that were truly, truly great and also played backup guitar on a lot of songs. I had no idea that he played guitar as well. He's got some mad skillz. There were in fact several pleasantly surprising instrumentals in this concert that I'm not sure have been recorded. At least, I haven't heard them on an album. Anyway, they were great.

After a good hour and 45 minute set they left the stage and we all clapped and yelled and stomped our feet until they came back out for an encore. They did a long instrumental number and then "Any Way You Want It" with extended guitar and drum solos. After their encore all five band members lined up at the front edge of the stage to wave and bow and clap back at us before exiting, stage right, single file. Trailing the others by a couple of yards and sporting a funny, bustling sort of walk was of course, Ross Valory. "Oh Ross! He's such a kidder!"

As it was already getting on past 11pm when the concert let out we left pretty quickly, though we did pause to consider the possibility of riding the ferris wheel now that it was dark out, but decided against it and got out of the fairgrounds faster than I thought we would. About 10 or 15 miles out of Indy we passed a nondescript bus and then another one, so I mention to Jamie the fact those those buses look an awful lot like the nondescript tour buses that had been parked behind Journey's stage area. And that the band had in fact left with the quickness. And oh hey, I think that Journey is supposed to play in Illinois or Iowa or something in the next day or two. You don't think...?

Then we passed a third bus. Yeah, that has to be them is what I'm thinking. Quite a coincidence if it isn't. But naturally without substantiated evidence the sighting wouldn't be peer-review worthy. And then we come up on a fourth bus that happens to have a window on our side. A window with a light in it. As we begin to draw up to pass this bus I go ahead and make a generic joke about maybe being able to see Neal Schon inside and then I get a look in the window and who do you think is sitting there? No, not David Duchovny. Arnel Pineda! So I yell something along the lines of: "OH MY GOSH IT IS HIM!" At that moment I remembered my joke from only a second before so I amended (in a slightly more reasonable tone o' voice) "Oh, not Neal Schon, I mean it's Zippy! I saw Zippy!"

By this point we were actually already past the bus so I say to Jamie, "Do you think we should slow down and wave?" and he says, "Kinda, definitely yes." So we did, but only briefly so as not to be a danger to ourselves or others, so I can't say as he saw us, but we tried.

The concert was totally and completely awesome, but knowing for a fact that we were within a meager three yards of Journey, well that was the amazingly creamy, soft, enticing icing on the otherwise delicious cupcake that was the day. The whole thing could totally be a Mastercard commercial.

So thank you Indiana: We did enjoe tethe fair. We enjoed it very much.

Joke probably refers to this: http://duchovny-leoni.blogspot.com/2009 ... n-nyc.html

Just Another Ride on the Bus
So...Elizabeth and I jumped on the cross town bus to get to Fifth Ave. I rarely ride the bus around town, but after this experience I think I might start.

I got on first and quickly made my way to the second of the two buses (it was a double bus). I got to the spinney part where the two buses connect (where I like to sit), but there was someone there and I didn't want to sit straight across from them. That can be awkward. So I sat in the first row of the second bus. Elizabeth quickly joined me. I was sitting there looking out the window enjoying my little bus ride, when Elizabeth nudged me and whispered, "look who it is?" I looked at the two people sitting in my favorite seat and realized it was David Duchovny and his little son!

We both did our best to keep cool, but you could feel the excitement in the air. It was at this point that his son dropped his backpack and the legos he was playing with. He jumped down and picked up his things, but left a lone lego on the floor of the bus. Over eager and without hesitation, Elizabeth and I both politely alerted him that he had dropped a lego (enthusiastically pointing as well).

David and his son both leaned over to see the lonely lego on the floor. The little guy jumped down and picked it up. David smiled at us and said, "Thanks!" Yes, that's right. David Duchovny looked at me and said thanks. I think that pretty much makes us best friends. What do you think?

I tried to sneak a picture on my phone, but it didn't turn out overly well. This truly made Elizabeth's New York trip complete. Nothing says New York like a seeing a celebrity in the wild.

Arnel Pineda is such a great performer, and with a voice that amazing it's not hard to come up with something nice to write about him! Love Journey, but this was my first time seeing them in concert and it was all I ever hoped for. Just fantastic.

Great! I thought there is a real back story that I have yet to hear or read since I'm a relatively new AP fan. I used to like David Duchovny though but until recently when he underwent rehab for something I may not post here. No, it's not drugs. :worried: I hope he's okay now.

I just wanted to say that I was at the Indy concert and I also saw Journey last year in Indy. Last year I only knew that Arnel was the new lead singer and I thought he did an awesome job last year, and I thought it was funny how he said Indianapolice...I knew he was Filipino so I was just impressed that he said it so well. So this year when I went with my husband and friends we couldn't wait to see him again and to hear him say Indianapolice! I instantly fell in love with him when he walked out on stage. He was awesome last year but 10 times more awesome this year! My friend and I call him a "jumpy squirell" since he jumps around so much! I am 24 years old and don't think I would have as much energy as he does! Yes the concert was hot, it is Indiana in August...the hottest month of the year! But I still rocked out and had a blast! Hopefully next year I will be in the front row and maybe will get to meet Arnel....fingers crossed.
The concert was great, Heart was great...loud but good! The boys rocked, Indy rocked, it was a good night!!
I tried to post pictures but they wouldn't post.
Thanks
