JOURNEY and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS will launch the “SAN FRANCISCO FEST 2016” tour on Thursday, May 12, 2016, again bringing together two of the iconic groups that helped define the “San Francisco Sound.” The tour, produced by Live Nation, launches at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in Irvine, California – with concerts scheduled through Tuesday, August 30, 2016, and includes special guest DAVE MASON. Tickets go on sale to the general public Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM through LiveNation.com. A full listing of tour dates can be found below.
Neal Schon (founding member and lead guitarist), original member Ross Valory (bass), and longtime members Jonathan Cain (keyboardist) and Arnel Pineda (lead singer), are welcoming virtuoso drummer Steve Smith back into JOURNEY, marking the first time he will perform with the band since 1998. Schon and Smith have always remained close friends and musical collaborators. Smith has lent his incredible talent to several of Schon’s solo albums, including critically acclaimed The Calling, and, most recently, Vortex.
Schon was thrilled when Smith accepted his invitation to rejoin JOURNEY, exclaiming, “I’m so looking forward to the very exciting 2016 we have planned, starting with my ‘Neal Vortex Schon’ Japan tour in February and then our major summer tour with The Doobie Brothers and Dave Mason. We will see you All soon!!!!”
THE DOOBIE BROTHERS‘ Tom Johnston (founding member, vocals/guitar), Patrick Simmons (founding member, vocals/guitar), and longtime member John McFee (guitars/strings/vocals) are adding Little Feat co-founder, Bill Payne, to their band on the 2016 tour. Payne performed on many of THE DOOBIE BROTHERS studio albums as well as on the road; a relationship the band is looking forward to rekindling.
“It’s gonna be a great summer for fans of Bay Area music, and for guys like us who have the pleasure of teaming up with our good friends from Journey and the Dave Mason Band,” said Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons of The Doobie Brothers. “We look forward to taking the stage with Journey. We love their songs, and think we will all complement each other musically. It is going to be a powerful tour. We can’t wait to share it with the fans!”
JOURNEY VIP Packages and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS VIP Packages will both be available through VIP Nation. For more information, visit http://journeymusic.com and http://doobiebros.com.

It started with a message from a fan named Rob on Arnel’s Wall. Arnel replied and promised to do his best. Three months later, after some coordination, it happened:
First of all, I love your vocals and think you are an amazing addition to Journey! Your own journey has been amazing, filled with many human hardships and rewards. You have the fortitude keep on going no matter what. I love that! You inspire me!
I’m writing you because I wanted to ask you a question regarding your August 1, 2014 Mandalay Bay show in Las Vegas, NV. I am attending this show to celebrate my 50th Birthday! Would you allow me the honor to ask my girlfriend Tiffany whom I’ve been dating for the past two years to be my wife on your stage? We have tickets on the main floor 20 rows back at your August 1, Las Vegas show. This would be something she and I would never forget…
A bit about me: I’m also a performing artist, www.ShamelessRob.com on the long road towards maybe someday being recognized for my musical contributions. I was married for 16 years and divorced 10 years ago with three children. As a result, I lost everything, my house, my car and my family support system. I lost the support of my sisters and brother, and other friends and family because of my “sinful” divorce, and their religious convictions.
I’ve spent the last 10 years rebuilding my life, writing and performing original music, and building a new family. I met Tiffany along the way, and she really loves who I am. This kind of love is so hard to find. She has a three year old boy Dillon who calls me “Dad.” I love him so much. His father wants nothing to do with him. So I have found something really special with Tiffany and Dillon, and I wanted to see if you and your band would help me celebrate my love for them?
And they lived happily ever after!
Journey does receive – but have to reject – plenty of similar requests while on tour. Fate smiled upon a fan and Arnel followed through with his promise this one time.

In light of the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram threatening to sell nearly 300 kidnapped schoolgirls into slavery, “Set Them Free” features songs by the Police and Sting covered by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Slash, Journey’s Neal Schon and Arnel Pineda, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Julian Lennon, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze), Free alumnus Andy Fraser and EnVogue to support and raise funds for Rock Against Trafficking (R.A.T.), a new nonprofit group dedicated to raise awareness of and fight for an end to child slavery worldwide. The set is being curated and produced by R.A.T. founder Gary Stewart, and Schon tells Billboard that a September concert in the U.K. has also been broached.
“This is for a very good cause,” says Schon, who recorded the Police’s “Synchronicity II” with Pineda for the project. “All kinds of artists are on this record. “All these different versions of their songs will be on the album, and hopefully a live show that will probably be filmed for the benefit.”
A release date, full track listing and other details are set to be announced in the near future.
